The stories in Raimy Loves Her Family are told by a young adult rebelling against the happiness and comfort implicit in her suburban upbringing. Having dropped out of college after what may or may not have been a suicide attempt, Raimy moves back in with her parents, who themselves are on the brink of falling apart. She spends this dark tumultuous year pursuing a number of destructive relationships, remaining skeptical of big ideas, and seeing all acts and promises of joy as performance. She glorifies the authenticity of her personal pursuit toward misery. And through the slipperiness of personal space and identity, through the packing of pieces into new containers, boxes, and homes, we see her family expand and shrink, we see feelings of hate and love so vigorously collide they nearly cancel each other out. Selections from Raimy Loves Her Family have been chosen for publication in Quarterly West and Sou'wester.
